Troubleshoot Common Machine Issues
If your machine isn’t operating the way it should, start with the situations below. Many issues can be resolved with a few quick checks.

Start Here First
Before diving into troubleshooting, check these common causes — they solve more issues than you’d think.
- Check that the machine has power and the breaker hasn’t tripped
- Confirm the emergency stop is disengaged (Older presses have TWO!)
- When Pressing, make sure press bags are properly filled
- Check hydraulic oil level and quality
- Inspect oil filter for clogs
- Thoroughly clean the press
Quick Checks for Common Issues
Machine Won’t Power On
What you might notice
- No lights
- No motor noise
- Machine completely unresponsive
Quick Checks
• Confirm the machine is plugged in securely and plug is intact
• Check that the outlet has power
• Verify the breaker for that outlet hasn’t tripped
• Confirm the emergency stop button is released (check side E-stop also on older models)
• Make sure the main power switch is turned on
If the machine still won’t power on, contact support.
Shredder or Press Won’t Start
What you might notice
- Machine has power
- Lights are on
- But shredder or press won’t start
Quick Checks
• Confirm the correct button or switch is being used
• Confirm the button or switch are functioning correctly
• IF SHREDDER IS NOT STARTING: Check that shredder sensor is aligned and cable is intact at both ends
• Verify the speed control is set at a noticeable speed
If the machine still won’t start, contact support.
Press Won’t Close
What you might notice
- Press plate stays in place
- Press starts but stops immediately
- Press does not move when cycle begins
Quick Checks
• Confirm the machine has powered on
• Confirm the press cycle has been started properly
• Verify hydraulic fluid is clear and tank is filled properly
• Inspect the chamber for anything preventing movement
If the press still won’t close, contact support.
Oil Leaking from the Machine
What you might notice
- Oil under the machine
- Oil visible near hydraulic components
Quick Checks
• Clean machine thoroughly to help locate where the oil appears to be coming from
• Check the hydraulic oil level in the tank
• Inspect hoses and fittings for visible leaks and tighten as needed
• Confirm the machine has not been overfilled with oil
If oil continues leaking, stop using the machine and contact support.
Button Sticking or Switch Not Working
What you might notice
- Button not returning to normal position
- Switch being "floppy"
- Machine not responding to controls
Quick Checks
• Inspect the button or switch for sticky residue or debris
• Make sure the button moves freely
• Turn the switch fully off and back on again
• Confirm the emergency stop is not engaged
If the control still isn’t functioning properly, contact support.
Machine Making an Unusual Noise
What you might notice
- Grinding
- Knocking
- Rattling
- Loud vibration
Quick Checks
• Stop the machine immediately
• Check for loose parts in hydraulic line or on press body
• Deep clean machine, especially under covers and on guide rail
• Inspect the shredder area for foreign objects
• Verify the shredder hub and blades are properly installed
If the noise continues, contact support before operating the machine again.
Press Closing Slowly
What you might notice
- Press cycle takes longer than usual
- Press plate moves slowly during close
Quick Checks
• Check the hydraulic oil level is at the appropriate level
• Verify the hydraulic oil filter is free of clogs and maintained properly
• Verify produce has been prepared properly before pressing
• Confirm press bags are not overfilled
• Run another 2-3 cycles to see if speed improves
If the press continues to move slowly, contact support.
Press Closing Unevenly (Walking)
What you might notice
- Press plate tilting during compression
- Press plate moving unevenly from side to side
- Bags shifting during pressing
Quick Checks
• Confirm press bags are evenly positioned with evenly distributed contents
• Confirm bags are properly filled
• Inspect the press plate for obstruction
• Thoroughly clean railing and guideblocks on press plate
If the press continues to move unevenly, contact support.
